BRADENTON, FL (August 23, 2024) – The Manatee Hurricanes made a powerful statement on Friday night, dismantling the Lake Minneola Hawks with a resounding 57-19 victory at Joe Kinnan Field at Hawkins Stadium. In a game that showcased the Hurricanes' dominance on both sides of the ball, Manatee delivered a performance that will have their upcoming opponents on high alert.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that the Hurricanes were determined to control the pace of the game. The offensive line paved the way for a relentless ground attack, allowing Manatee to rack up 238 rushing yards on 36 carries.
Leading the charge was Offensive Player of the Week, Kei’shawn Smith (#1), who put on a clinic with 18 carries for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Smith’s ability to find the end zone repeatedly was a crucial factor in Manatee’s commanding lead.
The Hurricanes' aerial assault, though less frequent, was equally effective. Manatee quarterbacks combined for 151 passing yards, completing 17 passes to a well-balanced receiving corps. In total, the Hurricanes amassed 389 yards of offense, leaving the Lake Minneola defense searching for answers.
On the defensive side, Manatee was equally impressive. The Hurricanes’ defense suffocated the Hawks' rushing attack, allowing a mere 9 rushing yards throughout the contest. Despite giving up 255 passing yards, the Hurricanes' pass rush was relentless, recording 5 sacks and pressuring the Hawks' quarterback 17 times.
Defensive Player of the Week, Ronin Dangler (#8), was a force to be reckoned with, tallying 5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and a fumble recovery. Dangler's impact wasn't limited to defense, as he also earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors with a forced fumble and a tackle in kick coverage.
The Hurricanes' defense created three crucial turnovers, including two fumbles and an interception, further stifling any momentum the Hawks attempted to generate. Manatee’s ability to capitalize on these takeaways was a key element in their dominant performance.
With the victory, the Hurricanes move to 1-0 on the season and now turn their attention to their highly anticipated rivalry matchup against the Southeast Seminoles.
